Mars in Virgo: It's time to cut the nonsense and really pick your spots.
Mars entered Virgo yesterday, June 17th, 2025, where it will stay until August 6th.
The key to Mars in Virgo energy is learning to pick your spots.
The archetype of Mars is our will and action energy. It’s how we go out and enforce ourselves as unique agents, separating from what is not “us,” and conquering what stands in the way of what we desire and where we want to go.
Virgo is an earth sign that’s focused on optimizing and organizing, creating protocols and systems. Wielding a sharp scalpel to cut away what is not essential and getting real and surgical about practical, tangible outcomes. Tl;dr, it’s time to go full Edward Scissorhands mode and trim out the bullshit. Especially our own.
Trying to Build in a Fog
This is a big year for Mars, as it’s depositing and ruling over Saturn and Neptune’s recent entrance into Aries (both of which are in close square to Jupiter in Cancer). That square is triggering a feeling of wanting to build something beautiful from the ground up. It’s a tension arising within what also may feel like an incredibly frustrating fog. What exactly does that beautiful thing look like? I don’t know bro, don’t ask me the details! Not just reconciling our desired growth path with frustrating limits, but also with the confusion of which limits are worth pushing on and which ones are not.
It seems impossible.
Or maybe you still feel like you’ve been in a bit of a holding pattern or haven’t totally recovered from the inertia of some of the intense astrological energy that’s been felt so far this year. From a non-astrological lens, this might feel like: “holy shit, it’s already almost the end of June, why is 2025 half over, and why is nothing going right?”
It Doesn’t Have to be Impossible
Deep breaths, boys and girls. Don’t give up on whatever your version is of starting the sloth sanctuary. Mars in Virgo is an excellent moment to recalibrate the practical, the day-to-day, and commit to new habits. But, that can be in service of the big and the fantastic. So long as that’s what you feel called to claim. Mars’ role here is to arm us with the energy to examine the details to get there—and the scalpel to pierce the fog and systematically disassemble the walls that stand in front of us. If you feel like whatever growth you’re seeking seems totally impossible, this is a reminder that it can happen, if you apply energy in a thoughtful, patient, and strategic way.
Where are we applying pressure that’s leading to results we want? And where are we stepping on the gas only to be spinning wheels in mud?
Avoid the Perfectionism Trap
Of course, there’s always a theme of perfectionism associated with Virgo. And perfectionism is almost always not a good thing.
Life is not perfect, so resist holding yourself to unrealistic standards. A healthy wielding of Mars here is less about being perfect or micromanaging yourself into a self-induced drowning from to-do lists, productivity apps, and self-criticism. It’s more about being patient and thoughtful and taking ownership over making incremental, iterative improvements to the system inputs. Build a halfway decent system, watch what it spits out, and don’t ignore the feedback that it gives you. Let that keeping informing the system, without getting too attached or beholden to outcomes along the way.
This is a time when your spirit animal is basically an auditor.
He can look like this, but make sure you keep stoking the faith and keep nurturing your imagination. So maybe give him a magic hat to wear, or something, like this:
Because not only is this Mars in Virgo a conduit for working out Saturn and Neptune in Aries, Mars in Virgo is also working harmoniously with Jupiter (Mars is now in sextile by sign with Jupiter, and the exact configuration will hit on June 22). When planets are in sextiled signs, it means they want to work together. And we can, and should, take advantage of that.
Your auditing, optimizing Virgo Mars energy will be energized by your Jupiterian faith, optimism, and call to nurture something deeply purposeful to you. And if you’re not tapping into whatever that means for you, Mars may not have enough gas to do its best.
Make the Plan (Even If It Changes)
And look, things certainly do not (and will not) feel like puppies and rainbows all the time. Saturn is blanketing us with “this can’t work, it will take too long, things are going to be hard before they move.” Neptune is whispering conflicting messages: inspiration, but also foggy uncertainty, like “am I chasing something that’s only a fantasy?” (C’mon Neptune, just be cool!) Jupiter is like, “I just want to build a home in expansive abundance.”
Mars here can act like the adult in the room. “First of all, everyone shut up. Second, let’s make a plan and try to make it happen. And if that plan doesn’t work, we’ll make a new plan and try again.”
You don’t need to have all the answers or have the whole system figured out. You’re not going to. But, resolving the tensions you might be feeling requires at least figuring out a strategy.
